The DHR Social Workers are school based and provide services in 12 elementary schools and one

middle school. They provide social work services to address psychosocial issues which interfere with a child’s ability to learn in the school setting. The major goals of the DHR Social Workers are to increase parental involvement, improve school attendance, decrease discipline referrals, and improve academic performance. The DHR social workers work in collaboration with school personnel to provide services.
A child is usually identified by school personnel as needing services. Referrals can be made by principals, assistant principals, teachers, school counselor or Student Intervention Team. The referring person would obtain verbal consent from the parents if the DHR Social Worker is going to provide ongoing services.
