The Adolescent Services Unit of Family NET provides a full range of outpatient psyc

hotherapeutic services, including psychological evaluations, Sex Offender Specific Evaluations (SOSE), and Diagnostic Assessments, to youths from 13 to 17 years of age. We receive referrals from client families and from varied professionals in the community, including family physicians, school counselors, and the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP). All clients receive a thorough assessment to determine the nature of their presenting problems, and treatment recommendations are made accordingly. Based upon the results

of the assessment, each client has an individualized, person-centered service plan developed along with the client and parent/guardian and agreed to by them. Problem areas include mood and behavioral disorders, family conflicts, substance abuse, school, and legal problems. The recommendations may include individual, family, and/or group counseling sessions, as well as referrals to a staff psychiatrist, if needed. In addition to providing services traditionally in our offices, Adolescent Unit therapists provide services in most high schools and middle schools throughout the county in order to reduce transportation problems some families may have.

Family NET is committed to assisting Catawba County’s at-risk youths and their families in developing the skills that will likely reduce conflict, improve problem-solving and communication, and promote positive choices in behaviors. With these skills, adolescents are much less likely to act out aggressively, abuse substances, drop out of school, and become involved with Juvenile Court.
