The Adolescent and Children in Treatment Program (ACT) is a day treatment program run by Family NET in conjunction with the three public school systems in Catawba County that serves children in

kindergarten through eighth grade. ACT provides a relatively short-term therapeutic and educational experience for children with emotional and behavioral problems that interfere with their ability to have a successful experience in the public schools. ACT provides services for students whose disruptive behavior at school and at home places them “at risk” for school-related failures. ACT does not serve students whose primary problems stem from chemical dependency or physical disability.
The goal of the ACT Program is to help the student make positive changes in order to enable a return to public school. ACT helps students who need a highly structured learning environment and who respond to consistent rewards and consequences as it is highly integrated with therapeutic and educational goals. Group and individual therapy are offered daily and family support is offered bi-weekly. A psychiatrist is on staff providing weekly appointments as well as being on-call. Services focus on achieving developmentally appropriate functional gains and are culturally relevant, child sensitive and family centered.
